WRITING WORKSHOPS

Write Wisdom conducts one-day workshops throughout the year. In our one-day workshop, “Writing Your Life Story,” we:

  • identify the elements of a memoir: truth versus fiction;
  • read excerpts from well-known memoirs to identify what constitutes a memoir and “what works” for the reader;
  • create a roadmap for your own memoir by defining turning points and heart’s desires;
  • participate in short writing assignments to get you started; and
  • share these writing assignments in class and receive feedback from workshop participants.

Participants in Write Wisdom Workshops may be first-time writers, as well as published authors looking for tips and motivation. Our seminars are limited to 20 participants to allow for individual feedback and attention by the instructor and classmates. The workshop is fun, exciting and motivating.

Each participant is given a detailed syllabus, an annotated bibliography and writing exercises to try at home. The workshops are designed to get you started and to take the fear out of writing.

TESTIMONIALS

What some of our participants have said about our workshops:

“I must say that there wasn’t one moment during our Saturday together that I was bored, or wanted to leave. As a journalist I’ve come to believe that everyone has an interesting story to tell about their life, and usually I’m the one trying to extricate the story from someone else. It was interesting to learn about how to best extricate the story from myself. Loren, I really appreciated how you brought it all together, and left me, at least, feeling inspired to continue.” ~B. Clark

“My career background was essentially spent in the sciences and these literary, creative and innovative thoughts are quite foreign to me. Your workshop and lecture exposed me to a brand new world.” ~M. Ono

“My expectations were less about being inspired to write and more about wanting to experience a professional at work inspiring others. And that was certainly evident. You have a friendly, engaging style that validates and encourages people. You radar in on two or three strong points in each person’s writing, and it is very encouraging.” ~J. Binder

"Loren, what a wonderful, wonderful day at your writing seminar. You are the perfect English professor – clearly you know your stuff – I was very impressed. You attracted the most interesting group of individuals. We will need a reunion.” ~B. Widmark

"The workshop exceeded my expectations and sharpened my senses to the nuances of writing vignettes and life stories.” ~K. Yamamoto
