OUR PHILOSOPHY &
WHO WE ARE

Write Wisdom, Inc. was established by
Loren Stephens
(pictured above) to provide support and guidance
for anyone interested in writing their memoir or life story. It is our belief
that every life is unique; that every person has a right to express what is
inside their head and inside their heart, but not everyone has the
self-confidence or discipline to accomplish this task without the help of a
professional coach, editor or writer.
Your memoir may not be headed for the best-seller list, but it will find willing
and appreciative readers who want to know about your life. Write Wisdom, Inc. can help
you fashion a readable, compelling, entertaining, and moving memoir through an
organized process that will take you from a desire to tell your story to a
completed manuscript and published book. You may want to write a memoir of your
entire life; a slice of your life story (your teenage years); a memoir about a
particularly challenging time in your life (loss of a loved one, battling an
illness; a bitter divorce); a dangerous or unusual adventure (living in the
jungles of Brazil; kayaking across Lake Michigan); or embarking upon a unique
career (the only woman in the Boardroom). Whatever the idea, we will help you
focus your story, give you ways to overcome your creative blocks, and make sure
that you cross the writing finish line.
Loren Stephens is the president and founder of Write Wisdom, Inc., and
Provenance Press, based in Los Angeles, California. She began her career as an
editor of economics textbooks for Houghton Mifflin Publishing Company. For seven
years, she worked for a prestigious mortgage and investment-banking firm in
Boston, first as a writer/researcher and ultimately as one of the company’s top
producing officers, in charge of multi-million dollar transactions, mainly in
the health care industry.
Loren’s love for the theater and books led her to Los Angles where she
established a theater and film production company, producing over thirty plays
including “Hannah Senesh” about the life of Israel’s
national heroine, “The Normal Heart” about the AIDS epidemic starring Richard Dreyfuss and Kathy Bates,
and “To Gillian on Her 37th Birthday,” a family drama in which a
college professor comes to terms with the loss of his wife in a
sailing accident. Loren also served as executive producer for the Emmy
nominated PBS documentary, “Legacy of the Hollywood Blacklist,” narrated by Burt
Lancaster; the bilingual documentary, “Los Pastores: The Shepherd’s Play,” about
Hispanic folk traditions in the Rio Grande Valley produced for KCET/Los Angeles;
and the docudrama, “Sojourner Truth: Ain't I a Woman?” starring Julie Harris and
Roscoe Lee Browne, on the life of the famous abolitionist and suffragette,
Sojourner Truth, produced for Coronet Films and New World Television, which won
a National Golden Apple from the National Education Association.
Loren’s films and stage productions focused on historically important events,
and individuals who dramatically impacted the social and political climate in
which they lived. Her decision to undertake a project was always based on
finding a compelling story that would move an audience. It is this philosophy
that continues to find expression in the books that she has helped others write
today.
Loren’s personal essays have been accepted for publication in numerous literary journals: Tapestries (“In Search of a Spiritual Life”); Jewish Women’s Literary Annual (“Just Give Me a Minute”); MacGuffin (“Nantucket Sleigh Ride”); Distillery (“Cinema Verite”); Pig Iron Press (“Just Give Me a Minute”); The Jewish Journal of Los Angeles (“A Seder Too Many”); St. Louis Jewish Light (“The Ghosts of Seders Past”) and the online Smith Magazine (“Close at Hand,” her encounter with Cary Grant). She is currently at work on a biography of her two Japanese mothers-in-law.
A graduate of Cornell University with degrees in English literature and
government, and a masters degree from the School of International Affairs at
Columbia University, Loren will help you take a personal journey of discovery
through writing.
